I love art and I love making art. Mosaic art is what I do and I specialize in stained glass mosaic art done on antique windows and other things. I started to mess around making it December of 2003 while on chemo. I was trying to make presents for my grown daughter and her partner. I guess I did okay because my daughter then entered me into a juried art show for May of 2004 and I was accepted. The pieces keep falling into place ------ PUN INTENDED ;-)
I'll write more later. For now the message here is creativity of any kind is so healing!

To add a note: I just today, Sunday Dec. 28, completely remodeled my art website. It took me most of the day but it's finally done. I had to do each page individually and add 2009 to each page. I changed the mountain logo and the spiral logo to white on black - instead of black on white. It took "painting" every little bit so no black showed through.
ReplyDeleteI also added some information here and there. Next I need to add more photos and see that some photos aren't showing up so need to fix that. For now, it's good enough! On to other things!
I almost forgot - I completely reformatted all of the pictures on each page. I tried to do a slide show but couldn't figure out how. I'll do that soon. And music - I'd like to have some nice music and will once I figure out how.
ReplyDeleteOkay, enough about updating my website.
My BIO:
ReplyDeleteRebecca York began the fine art of mosaic in December 2003. In May of 2003, Rebecca was diagnosed with Hepatitas C.
In June she was told she had level 4 liver disease - they rate on a scale from 1 to 4, 4 being the worst.
After beginning a six month chemo therapy treatment, Becky was very ill and couldn’t do much. She became stir crazy and decided
to use her artistic creativity to keep her mind occupied. Always awed by the beauty of glass, Becky
experimented. The result was beautiful mosaic stained glass pieces. She used many different found materials
in her work including deer antler, agates, mirror, and clay. For Christmas 2003, Becky gave her art as
gifts. Her family was literally amazed at this gift she had tuned into - so was she. For her birthday in January 2004, her
family helped enter her into a juried show. Their goal was to encourage her to share this gift. It worked; everyone
loved her work and she continues to share it today.
In the very near future:
ReplyDeleteWe will be opening an art gallery here at our home in the future. Later we will have an art/nature retreat. A treehouse and a couple of teepees will be available along with some packages including use of the newly finished sauna. The bike/hiking trail will be complete to the top of our mountain with places to stop and rest or meditate along the way. At the end of the trail, you will see the panoramic views of Lake Chatcolet, the St. Joe River, Round Lake, Benewah Lake, Heyburn State Park, St. Joe Baldy Mountain, Reeds Baldy Mountain, the Benewah Valley, and the mountains all around and beyond. There will be a place to rest and have a snack or meal at the top of the hand-built trail and to take it all in.
There will be an outhouse near the treehouse. Eventually, the treehouse will be solar powered.
We will offer organic produce from our garden and some fine wines, teas, and coffees. We will also have a masseuse frome Moscow on site periodically.
These package experiences will be offered on a limited seasonal basis. The details to be ironed out as we grow closer to the reality of it.
We are very excited about this endeavor!
There will also be mosaic classes available on a limited basis with a limit of 3 per class to start.
We will announce all of this as they happen, to everyone - customers, future customers, Craig's List, 7 Spokane, my website, my Blogs,
MySpace, local papers, local art galleries that my art is in, and any other media we can think of.
Our goal is to offer a getaway to re-energize your mind, body, spirit, and creativity.
I just found out that an interview recently ended up in the Crafts Report Magazine in the March 2009 issue. Pictures of my art and some info about me and my goals are in the section about 2 Degrees Northwest - Profile - starts on page 42. WOW!! This is big and so great.
ReplyDeleteThank you Diana Lambdin Meyer for the great interview!
